I have been working on a number of workshops concerning two fields of interest on my research: argumentation and pragmatics. Part of my drive in developing these workshops stems from my intentions to share what little knowledge I have on these subjects with a wider academic audience, specially undergraduate students from language or communication programs. Another part stems from the lack of either extensive and/or updated courses on these subjects on the curriculum of some institutions.
ARGUMENTATION IN EFL/ESL
This workshop introduces argumentation theory as a tool for building reading and writing skills in English as a Foreign Language and English as a Second Language (EFL/ESL) classes. It is divided into 10 sessions and targeted at English language learners and teachers.
A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO PRAGMATICS
This workshop addresses the four of the foundational theories of pragmatics in linguistics: Grice’s theory of implicatures, Austin/Searle’s speech act theory, Wilson/Sperber’s relevance theory and Brown/Levinson’s politeness theory. It is divided into 4 sessions and targeted at undergraduate students.
